Caring for your Furniture

|
|
Here we focus on looking after your
furniture including leather and loose cover sofas |
|
Wooden Furniture |
All
furniture needs a little attention...
 | To clean any wooden surface, a light dust over should
suffice. Once in a while, use a slightly damp cloth to wipe over
the top. Furniture does not always need polishing. This
can lead to a build up of polish on the surface, and can give the
furniture a duller appearance. |
 | Keep furniture away from sources of heat such as radiators
and fires. |
 | Keep furniture out of direct sunlight. |
 | The majority of woods will fade or deepen in colour,
in daylight. If you have any objects on the surfaces of the
furniture, move them around to prevent light and dark patches on the
surface. |
 | Don't place hot cups on the surfaces, always use a
coaster. |
 | If you are placing a vase of flowers on the top,
ensure that the base of the vase is dry. If the base is wet, it
could penetrate the wood and leave a water mark. |
 | If you have any rings on your furniture from hot
cups, there are several products you can use to remove them.
These can be found in many DIY stores, but please read the
instructions first, and don't use them without specialist advise on
your antiques. |

Leather Sofas |
 | To enhance and prolong the life of your
leather furniture... |
 | Do not place the item near to any source of
heat, such as a fire or radiator |
 | Do not place the item in direct sunlight, this
will fade and dry out the leather |
 | Keep the item clean by using a vacuum cleaner
on its lowest setting, and wipe the leather with a soft cloth |
 | If the leather gets damaged or dirty, speak to
a specialist, or try using a specialist cleaner, available from most
furniture stores |
|
|
Loose Cover Sofas |
|
When you own a sofa with machine
washable loose covers, there are a few points to bear in mind when you
come to wash them.
 |
always read the care label or washing
instructions, and keep the instructions, if they come in a booklet or
leaflet form, somewhere safe. |
 |
use gentle detergents like Lux or Dreft, that
do not have optical brighteners or bleaching agents. |
 |
do not tumble dry unless stated in the
instructions. |
 |
put the covers back on to the sofa when they are
almost dry. |
 |
do not put any other coloured scatter cushions
on to the sofa until the covers of the sofa or scatter cushions are
completely dry, otherwise the colour could run. |
 |
it is a good idea to buy an extra set of loose covers
when purchasing sofas or chairs, these can be used either when the
originals are in the wash or you want to change the colour. |
These details are to be used as a
guide only, always read the manufacturers instructions
